Genetics

For decades now, human beings have been making alterations to the genetics of animals and sometimes, humans too. This has advantages and disadvantages. However, we are going to be discussing the advantages.

Why Genetic Mutation?

Genetic mutation is a way of selecting the best genes from one individual or animal and merging with the best genes from another. This way, you have a human being or animal with superior traits. It can be used to eliminate bad quality traits because it completely leaves them out of an individual or animal’s genetic composition.

Genetic Composition of Brahmousin Cattle

  • The Brahmousin breed was created on a ranch in Marble Falls, TX, by cattle rancher Daryl Wiggins in the late ’70s. He was determined to create a superior breed of cattle, and he achieved this by combing the excellent quality traits of a Limousin cow and a Brahma cow on his ranch. He was able to successfully isolate the good genes of both breeds and combine them in the embryo of a female Limousin cow.
  • He worked with a genetic formula- three-eighths of the Brahma breed and five-eighths of the Limousin breed. This is the universal requirement for a purebred Brahmousin cow. Anything less or more is regarded as an ordinary Brahmousin cow. Note that your Brahmousin cattle don’t need to be purebred, however, it is in your best interest. That way, you are certain that you truly have the best of both Limousin and Brahma breeds.

Limousin Cattle

Limousin cattle are originally from France, and they are generally regarded for their lean and tender meat. They have large and beefy frames that are perfect for producing beef in large quantities. If you are looking to go into the beef market, this is a suitable breed for you. The Limousin breed is very muscular. Their calves have very lightweight when they are born. They also have great milk production rates.

Brahma

  • This breed of cattle is an indigenous American breed. It is the most reared cattle breed in Australia. It has a very thick skin that protects it from insect bites, and it has a very high tolerance for heat. Brahma cattle also tend to live very long, much longer than other cattle breeds. They also have high stress tolerance levels.
  • The genetics of the Brahmousin is a combination of the best genes of the Brahma and the Limousin. This is what makes the Brahmousin a superior breed. It has a large and beefy frame just like the Limousin, and it also can tolerate heat and high levels of stress, just like the Brahma breed. It also has other unique traits that make it worthy of its reputation.
  • Some cattle rearers offer cross-breeding services at reasonable rates. However, unless you want your Brahmousin to be recorded as ordinary breeds, you have to ensure that your female Brahmousin is mated with only a purebred male Brahmousin cow.
