Cattle School

The Australian Brahmousin Association Inc. offers a series of training programs for people who are interested in any or all of our cattle rearing related programs. Each program is handled by cattle rearers who have had years of experience in the cattle business. This program is open to all ages and groups of people. It is set to run for four days, with only two full days.

Program

There will be both oral and practical sessions handled by experienced cattle rearers for the following programs:

  • Selection of suitable for showing, breeding and beef production
  • Animal husbandry and health
  • Veterinary care
  • Parading, feeding and grooming
  • Requirements for the beef market
  • Animal Preparation
  • Showing and show gear
  • Breaking in of cattle for showing
  • Training of cattle for showing
  • Handling of cattle for showing

Cattle for School

Each participant is advised to bring their cattle. However, if as a result of financial constraints you are unable to bring your own, then a limited number of cattle may be made available for you. You must have broken in the cattle you are bringing, and each bull above the age of twelve months has to have its nose ring. Come along with all gear and equipment you need for cattle showing. Some of them include shampoo, cattle cane, brushes and lead ropes.

Accommodation and Meals

We have made adequate provision for your accommodation. You have access to basic camping facilities at the show grounds, with toilet and bathroom facilities included. The registration fee covers all the meals we will provide for you, and a canteen is usually provided by volunteers during the day.

Costs

Participants younger than 17 years of age will pay a registration fee of $80, while participants above the age of 17 will pay $95. This fee covers your breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also covers the fee for your training. You get a T-shirt and a cattle handling booklet. Non-participants are also welcome, and their registration fee is $50.

When you are coming, we advise you to come along with your eating materials such as a plate, cup, bowl, cutlery set, and water bottle. If you are on any medication, you should come along with it. You also need personal items that would make your stay as comfortable as possible, sleeping gear, a tent, old clothes, footwear, a hat to prevent sunburn, and clothes that you can wear for the junior handlers competition.
