Brahmousin

Characteristics

Brahmousin cattle have amazing and unique characteristics that make them a superior breed indeed. They are a product of two superior cattle breeds- the Limousin and Braham.

Physical Features

Brahmousin cattle have two shades- a golden red or tan colour that gets lighter around the eyes, legs, muzzle and underbelly. They have slightly loose skin, which is a dominant characteristic of Braham cattle. Their skin is not only slightly loose, but it is also quite thick. It is thick enough to be resistant to insect bites. This protects them from diseases that can be caused by insects.

Brahmousin cattle are usually quite large, with sturdy frames and beefy compositions. They have excellent muscling traits and can produce a large quantity of beef.

Some other unique traits Brahmousin cattle possess include:

1. Feed Efficiency

Brahmousin cattle are excellent at maximising the food they consume. Considering their size, they consume a substantial amount of feed and can circulate that amount of feed around their whole body while maintaining their usual body weight.

2. Excellent Carcass Quality

What is the purpose of rearing cattle like the Brahmousin breed if not to produce high-quality beef? The physical composition of Brahmousin cattle makes them one of the best suppliers of beef in the world. They produce lean and tender beef. If you need beef that has little to no fat content, then the Brahmousin breed is the most suitable producer.

3. Great Foraging Ability

The Brahmousin breed is a breed with great foraging ability. They are independent enough to cater to their feeding as long as they are guided to pasture. You only have to interfere occasionally, to provide them with extra supplements if you are so inclined. Apart from that, they only require an expert herdsman who can guide them to pasture, and provide them with water.

4. High Fertility Rate

Brahmousin cattle are very fertile. They absorbed excellent fertility traits from the two breeds that make up their genetic composition. Male Brahmousin cattle are very fertile and virile, and they are active and aggressive breeders. The female cattle are also fertile and quite virile.

5. Heat Tolerance and Insect Resistance

A great trait the Brahmousin breed possesses is heat tolerance. This is a dominant trait from the Brahma breed. It helps Brahmousin cattle adapt to and withstand extremely hot weather conditions. This means that you can rear your Brahmousin cattle in a country like Australia, where the weather can be quite hot at times.

The thick skin of the Brahma breed was also absolved as part of the genetic composition of the Brahmousin breed. This thick skin makes it impossible for insects to penetrate their bloodstream. Hence, they are resistant to insect bites and diseases caused by insects.

6. Excellent Maternity Traits

Brahmousin calves usually have a lightweight upon delivery. This makes it easy for their mothers to take care of them. The excellent milk production trait of Brahmousin cattle also makes it easy for them to feed their calf.
